Description
A Haida silver spoon
Attributed to Charles Edenshaw, Da.a xiigang, (1839-1920), designed with a formline and hachured loon along the handle; the beak forming the terminal, with a similarly executed marine animal adorning the back of the bowl.
length 4 3/8in; weight 9.5 grams approximately

See Wright, Robin K. and Augaitis, Daina, curators, Charles Edenshaw, 2013, Black Dog Publishing/Vancouver Art Gallery, London, published in conjunction with the 2014 exhibition of the same title, wherein several similarly executed spoons attributed to Edenshaw are illustrated; p. 158, fig. 151, shows a spoon in the Collection of the Museum of Anthropology, University of British Columbia, (object 2713/10) with a comparable motif to the underside of the bowl; another, on p. 230, fig. 253, from a private Vancouver collection, shows a design along the neck echoing the present lot.
