壁畫於鑿平的壁面上直接塗抹一層摻和纖維的白灰泥，將其壓平抹光，再行彩繪。仕女昂首端立，頭梳高髻，橢圓形臉滿帶紅妝，彎眉細目，隆鼻紅唇微露笑意，五官精緻，神色莊重恭謹。身穿曳地長裙，身形些微側彎，肩披紗巾，雙手自然向前挽披巾，沉思注視，姿態柔美優雅，似嫻靜女官。襦裙雖然寬大垂墜，仍可於曲線流動間露出尖頭履，步履輕盈，充分顯露盛唐時期孕育的女子形象，展現繪畫藝術欣欣向榮、開天闢地般的繁榮景象。
舊唐書《輿服志》中記載當時對服飾和場合的一致性有嚴格要求，但在壁畫中，仕女們戲耍遊戲、日常活動所穿服飾不盡相同，女性時尚大約十年左右即有明顯變化。在大量唐墓壁畫中的女性形象，顯示出唐太宗早期「清秀瘦雅」的主流審美；太宗後期和高宗時期，則以高大健碩的女性更受歡迎。永泰公主墓出土，陝西歷史博物館庋藏唐〈宮女圖〉、比利時古董商吉賽爾女士庋藏唐七世紀中期至八世紀中期〈仕女壁畫〉，裙裝侍女形象與本品極為相似，可資參考。亦表現出此時期女性形象審美向豐腴發展的過渡期，漸傳達出豐滿女性是富貴與地位象徵的信號。
中國古代對身前、身後事皆非常重視，由此產生並逐漸形成墓養壁畫藝術。從西周至清代，各時期墓葬中皆有壁畫發現，又以漢、唐代墓葬壁畫最爲興盛。其中女性形象在唐代壁畫中尤為耀眼，形成墓葬考古特有風貌，象徵主人生前居住的豪華宮殿以及重重院落，也掀開中國繪畫史上極爲重要的一頁。其製作過程複雜，壁畫的結構基本有三種情況，其中保存狀況較好，是先將壁面鑿平，塗抹一層草拌泥，其上臥抹摻和纖維的白灰泥，將其壓平抹光。如章懷太下葛、懿德太子參、永泰公主及本品皆屬此情況。由於珍貴文物極易破損，從摘取、加固修復到保護皆有嚴格的技術要求，已成爲歷史、考古、建築等學科非常重要的依據，也是戲曲影視參考的重要資料。本品仕女風韻卓絕，以紅、黑爲主的礦物顏料賦色，色彩運用大膽，注重主體圖像的表現和明暗變化，線條如行雲流水、一氣呵成，作爲一種繪畫藝術、社會時尚乃至審美觀念，呈現唐代物質生活的富足和精神生活豐富多彩的黃金時代。
