Description
A Victorian Scottish sterling silver sugar bowl, Edinburgh 1849 by Walker Crichton
of circular form of alternating panels each having embossed decoration of scrolls and floral leaves. With a shaped undulating rim upon a stepped collet foot. On either side engraved with a greyhound courant the other with a crest of a lion rampant, supporting s shield, charged with a cross placed upon a saltir with motto Try and Tryst above. Fully marked underneath

Height – 8 cm / 3.2 inches
Weight – 243 grams / 7.81 ozt
The crest and motto is for Clark
Possibly for George Clark (1809-1889) who was the Dowlais iron works manager who developed Talygarn house and occupied it from around 1880 till his death.His son Godfrey Clark (1855-1918) was Chair of the Pontypridd improvement Board until the creation of the Llantrisant & Llantwit Fardre District Council in 1894 to which he was elected and became Chair.
