Indian Shadow Puppet
Early 20th century, perforated colored parchment depicting the figure of a bearded male surrounded by (2) smaller figures; together with another smaller Greek parchment shadow puppet, 20th century, depicting Karagiozis, a hunchbacked male figure in traditional dress; and (2) Sanskrit palm manuscripts
Provenance: The Estate of George 'Yorgo' Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1965-2000
Property from: a Kalamazoo, Michigan estate
Height: 26 inches, Width: 19 3/4 inches (largest puppet)
Condition: Very Good to Good, discoloration and wear to larger puppet; loss to upper right corner, losses and tears to edges, curling at edges; wear to paint of smaller puppet, curling at heel of a foot; a manuscript missing a cover and binding; sheets may also be missing
