Sunset Magazine Cover. Maynard Dixon (1875-1946, American). Print. Signature to lower left. Matted in wood frame. Best known for his Western land- and skyscapes. He began doing illustrations in 1893. This print is from his illustration for Sunset A Magazine of the Border in February 1903. 6-5/8" wide xd 9-3/4" high; mat and frame 3-3/8" top and right side, 3-1/4" right side, 4-1/8" bottom. Slight water damage to lower left of mat. DP.  PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of journalist and editor E. Michael Pakenham (1933-2018). Pakenham was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1977 for his editorials in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He began his newspaper career at the Chicago Tribune and went on to work as an editor at the New York Herald, The New York Daily News, the Sunday Correspondent, and Spin Magazine.
