Description
Sharps New Model Saddle Ring Carbine Attributed to Flying Hawk, from his Daughter Mattie Quick Bear. Serial no. 46719, .54 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear ladder sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. R.S. Lawrence and C. Sharps patent dates to right side of receiver. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Hinged patchbox to right side of stock. Metal buttplate. Sold along with letter, typed and handwritten, dated 12/12/21. Letter states that the carbine was acquired from Mattie Quick Bear, daughter of Flying Hawk. Steve Dancey said his grandfather, Oscar Dancey, and him purchased the carbine from her in 1961. Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Saddle ring absent. Noticeable scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Large crack to base of fore-end. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.
