Description
Egyptian statuette, 4th century BC, 30th Dynasty (380-343 BC).
Painted wood.
In good condition, retains traces of polychromy.
Attached is a report issued in the 1970s by Ricardo Batista Noguera, former director of the Archaeological Museum of Barcelona, of the Archaeological Museum of Olérdola (Barcelona), of the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia and municipal archaeologist of Tossa de Mar.
Attached is a photocopy of the purchase invoice from 1984.
Provenance: Private collection in Barcelona
Measurements: 13 cm (height of the sculpture); 20 cm (total height).
This statuette retains its former attractiveness, as well as clear evidence of its black paint on the tripartite wig. The plaster layer with its corresponding old polychrome colouring has disappeared from the body. The assembly of the arms by means of wooden nails that allow their mobility is very original. The eyes retain great expression despite the logical process of deterioration of the wood over the centuries. It is a piece that falls within the idealised Egyptian canons, but which materialises the female figure. It is a well-proportioned statuette, which is difficult due to the seated posture hiding the legs under the long dress. We believe that it could be a statuette-doll destined for the funerary trousseau of a young woman to whom it would have belonged during her lifetime.
