Description
Top is written "Part of the Marye Rose, Sunk off Spithead in the reign of Henry VIII recovered 1840 having been under water for 300 years". Interior is lined with silver foil (?). Inside of lid stamped "To HRH The Duke of Sussex". If the box was made shortly after the shipwreck was recovered in 1840, this could have been given to Prince Augustus Frederick, 9th child of King George III, who was the Duke of Sussex at the time and died in 1843. Box is in beautiful condition. Size: 7/8 x 3 3/4 x 2". Approx. weight 50 g.
