Item Details
Description

A very fine quality late 19th century Rococo style walnut cased mantel clock with scrolling ormolu mounts and German Lenzkirch movement, serial number 538586, dated circa 1890. The clock case is decorated with a cast bell on top, sun masks, Cherub figures, and more. Completed with two winding keys marked: India. Bears the brass dial adorned with engravings, white and black enamels. Public company for clockmaking Lenzkirch was founded in 1851 in the village of Lenzkirch in Baden by Eduard Hauser who had trained in France and Switzerland. It is in the tradition of Black Forest clockmakers. Hauser, the son of a teacher, was born on 21 August 1825 and gained experience in making music boxes with Johann George Schopperle. The firm acquired a reputation for building particularly fine regulators. Up to the 1920s, it still produced regulators with compensated pendulums and precision movements.
