Steinway model S #351221, made in 1956. High-gloss black lacquer finish. Matching original bench with storage.

Case: Finish and Rim: The rim shows no signs of separating. The finish is in fair condition, with a number of scrapes and dings to the edges of various case parts. The top of the lid has several impressions embedded in the finish which could not be removed without refinishing the lid. Overall, in fair condition for it's age with age-appropriate scratches and dings.

Bench: original matching bench with storage in fair condition.

Trapwork (pedal system): firmly attached, only partially functional. Middle pedal requires adjustment to function properly. Sustain pedal (right pedal) and Una Corde (left) are properly set.

Action: All original action parts. Hammer flanges are stiff, causing the action to feel heavy. Down weight was measured at 70-75 grams. The standard measurement is 60-65 grams on a Steinway S. This could be corrected by re pinning the hammer flanges. There is no verdigis on the flange pins.
The key dip is shallow, measured at .4". Standard is .5". Correction to this parameter would make the piano feel more responsive and sensitive. Damper felts are in good condition.

Strings and Tuning Pins: Original strings in fair condition.

Soundboard and Bridges. No cracks or splits in the soundboard or bridges.

Original ivory keys in excellent condition. Original key bushings are properly tight. The wippens are original and require only "regulation" adjustments to make them optimal.

Pitch and tone: Good, resonant tone for a 5'2" "petite" grand piano. The piano was found less than 3% flat and could be brought back to a stable A440 pitch with a single tuning (three weeks after it has settled into its new home). Healthy pianos go about 5% flat annually.
