A MUGHAL-STYLE AGATE HOOKAH BASE
India, 19th century. Of bell-shaped form, with a pronounced ring below the tubular neck, the body carved with panels of flower motifs between bands of leaves, the neck with a geometric design and the base with a flower.

Condition: Overall good condition with minor surface wear, few natural age cracks, small notches to exposed areas and rims, as well as a small restoration to the mouth lip.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
