A VERY LARGE VIETNAMESE LACQUERED WOOD STATUE OF QUAN AM
Vietnam, 19th century. A large figure depicting the goddess of mercy Quan Am (Guanyin) seated in padmasana, two hands in anjali mudra, the other two resting on the lap, the face with downcast eyes, and wearing a crown. The figure almost entirely covered in black and red lacquer.
Provenance: British private collection, according to the previous owner bought in Vietnam during the 1980s.
Condition: The figure with cracks, flaking to the lacquer, chips, and small losses as well as larger restorations to the lacquer coating. The sides with apertures for mounting.
Dimensions: Height 84 cm
