A SANCAI RIDGE TILE WITH DIGNITARY, LATE MING PERIOD
China, Ming dynasty (1368-1644), 17th century. The nobleman finely modeled standing, his hands holding a vessel, dressed in long flowing robes, and wearing a headdress, glazed in yellow, aubergine and turquoise.
Provenance: Compagnie de la Chine et des Indes, Paris, inventory number 2612, acquired in Beijing 1937. Private collection, Belgium.
Condition: Commensurate with age, a chip to one corner of the ridge, glaze flakes and minor cracks, the neck restored.
