Description
A PAINTED POTTERY HORSE AND RIDER, HAN DYNASTY
China, Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). The well-modelled sturdy horse standing foursquare with head raised, upright ears, flaring nostrils and slightly open mouth, the gray body painted in black and red, the saddle area painted in red and white. The male rider sitting upright with one hand raised in the motion of holding a rein, wearing red and black garments, the face with finely painted eyes, mouth and moustache.

Provenance: Galerie Zacke, Vienna, on 3 December 2004. Dr. Mons Fischer, acquired from the above, sold for EUR 3,025. Being a seasoned private collector of modern and contemporary art, Dr. Mons Fischer has acquired fine Chinese works of art since the 1980s, eventually building one of the most important collections of its kind in Austria.
Condition: Overall good condition, commensurate with age as expected from Han dynasty excavations. Restored breakages, chips, wear to the pigments, encrustations.
