A CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN AND CHILD, LATE QING
China, 1900s. Guanyin and a child standing above swirling waves, the deity wearing a voluminous robe and a bejeweled necklace, holding a lotus spray and a vase containing the elixir of life, the serene face topped with a high chignon hairstyle and cowl, backed by a halo. The child besides her holding a large leafy lotus spray. Mounted to a rocky wood base.
Condition: With minor wear, tiny chips to exposed areas and a 4 cm crack to the backside, otherwise good condition.
Provenance: German private collection, assembled before 2000.
