An exquisitely finished, hinged and footed table box in panels of coral-toned shagreen with a wood-lined interior made by the Mappin and Webb Company of London, England. Made circa 1930's with dimensions: 2.25 in. height x 4.5 in. length x 4.25 in. depth, with inlaid company label on bottom. This box is a lovely example of Art Deco design which often employed the use of exotic woods and skins for the finish of furniture and decorative objects. Condition very good.Mappin and Webb, founded in the late 18thC, employed talented silversmiths, jewelers, watchmakers and other artisans to design wonderfully crafted objects synonymous with excellence and craftsmanship that were sold to the affluent of British society. In time the company expanded internationally, receiving Royal Warrants and commissions from Monarchs around the world. Known for combining craftsmanship with superior quality and design, the company produced exquisite decorative objects, silverware, watches, glassware and accessories that have long been part of affluent British society.
