Description
Original illustration drawn in ink on paper by Mabel Alvarez, circa 1910-1915, shortly after graduating from High School. Drawing was made as a possible illustration page for a poem of same title (attached verso) written by her art teacher and mentor James E. McBurney. The drawing depicts a small girl with a hoe working dilligently in her garden with various animals, bugs and snales roaming about, 6 3/4 in. x 10 3/4 in. sight, matted to 12 in. x 16 in. Provenance: Al Kramer, Los Angeles, CA to Private Collection, Los Angeles, CA. This drawing is part of a large collection of Alvarez's works that was acquired 40 years ago by a CA collector from Alvarez's Gallerist/Agent, Al Kramer of Los Angeles. Much of this collection was sold a number of years ago. This ink on paper rendering was part of a group of similar illustrations and drawings that were offered as a single large lot in a 2018 John Moran Auction that failed to meet its reserve. We are offering many of the pieces from this lot individually for collectors to be able to enjoy the wonderful artistic tallent of this well known artist.
