Banksy's latest print, Banksquiat, is an homage to New York graffiti pioneer Basquiat. It depicts a big wheel with people lining up at a ticket booth underneath. Basquiat's trademark crown motifs replace the passenger lifts.

In this work, Banksy defiantly questions the unstoppable commodification of Basquiat in recent times, by bluntly adding to the relentless commodification of Basquiat in recent times.

Banksy executed two murals inspired by the American artist on a wall in the Barbican Centre (Central London) on the occasion of the largest Basquiat exhibition ever held in the UK in September 2017 – January 2018 - Boom for Real.

The present work reproduces one of these two graffiti and the second was captioned: Portrait of Basquiat being welcomed by the Metropolitan police – an (unofficial) collaboration with the new Basquiat show. It was inspired by Basquiat's Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump – one of his most iconic artworks.
