Description
The rare photomechanical image, based on an actual photograph, provides an accurate historic record of the Rocky Mountain Limited passing through rangeland in the vicinity of Colorado Springs and Pike's Peak while a cowboy wearing leather working chaps astride a mule looks on. The Rocky Mountain range is seen in the background. Engine and tender number 1112 are followed by cars that include Westlake, Manila, Dining Car, and two Chair Cars. This is an exceptional example with great color, its original mat lettered GREAT ROCK ISLAND ROUTE is included in the original oak frame with original wood backing. Gold embossed lettering on the lower right reads COPYRIGHT 1900 BY DETROIT PHOTOGRAPHIC CO, the printing company of which the well known Western photographer William Henry Jackson (1843-1942) was an owning partner.
