Description
Two Chinese bronze Buddhist figures dating from the 18th or 19th century. The larger figure is White Tara seated on a double lotus pedestal in padmasana. Her left hand is placed in front of her and her right hand rests on her knee with palm out. The smaller figure is Yellow Jambhala seated on a single lotus pedestal in a relaxed pose with his right foot resting on a conch shell. In his left hand he holds a jewel-spitting mongoose and in his right hand he holds a fruit.
Dimensions are: the larger object measures 4 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/2 inches long X 2 1/2 inches wide, 11.4 cm X 8.9 cm X 6.4 cm. The smaller object measures 4 1/4 inches tall X 2 3/4 inches long X 2 1/2 inches wide, 10.8 cm X 7 cm X 6.4 cm. Total weight: 736 grams. All measurements are approximate.
Provenance: From a private Boston, Massachusetts collection.
Condition: White Tara has numerous areas of repair as well as breakage and loss throughout and significant gilt wear. Yellow Jambhala has paint and gilt wear.
