Arthur Szyk (pronounced �Shick�) was a Polish-born Jewish artist who worked as a book illustrator and political artist throughout his career. He was born into a prosperous middle-class family in Lodz, in the part of Poland which was under Russian rule in the 19th century. Szyk used his art to advocate for religious tolerance, racial equality and human dignity.
