Description
An impressive pair of Royal Worcester vases and covers by James Stinton, dated 1903
Of ovoid shape, with twin high scrolled handles and raised on a plinth foot, the shoulders ornately modelled with masks and drapery picked out in 'blush ivory' and gold, the bodies fully painted with pheasants emerging from woodland, signed 'JAS STINTON', 50.5cm high, puce printed marks, shape number 1398 (4)
Footnotes:
Painted soon after his arrival from the Grainger factory, these are exceptional examples of James Stinton's painting on a scale rarely seen on Worcester vases. Even the reverse panels are fully painted in an Impressionistic manner.
