A Chelsea cup and saucer, circa 1755
With a green stalk handle applied with forget-me-nots at the terminals, the saucer with a raised central well, realistically painted with delicately coloured ombrierte butterflies and other scattered insects, saucer 12.7cm diam, red anchor marks (2)

This lepidopterological style of painting is rare on English porcelain. A teapot and cover with the same decoration and distinctive handle terminals as the present lot is illustrated by Elizabeth Adams, Chelsea Porcelain (2001), p.115, fig.8.27.
