A Venetian 'Inghistera' vase by Salviati and Co, circa 1880
In smelze glass, of bottle form, splashed and streaked with a profusion of colours including red, yellow, white, green, blue and aventurine on a jet-black ground, the compressed baluster form with a tall tapering neck and spreading trumpet foot folded at the rim, 17.6cm high

This shape of vase is known as an Inghistera in Italian. A Salviati smelze example of similar size in Stanford University is illustrated by Carol M Osborne, Venetian Glass in the 1890s (2009), p.89, no.66. Two larger examples were sold by Bonhams in New York as part of the Martin Cohen Collection, 6-7 October 2021, lots 234 and 235.
