Description
SWIRL, Joseph Coat. These are occasionally identified as cased onionskins or "clamskins", but the construction is similar to a Joseph Coat Swirl. Clear base. White subsurface layer. On top of the what are strands of orange rods, with space in between each. And then a layer of clear. Nicely constructed marble, it would have taken some time to lay all those orange rods out and get space between them. Beauty. Germany, circa 1860-1920. Provenance: Block's Marble Auction #131 October 23, 1997 Lot 27 11/16". Mint (9.7).
