Ferran Callico was a draughtsman, painter and theoretician, author of numerous portraits in pencil, with a very meticulous and realistic technique. In the field of painting, he developed a vitalist language, with a preference for the recreation of family pictures such as the one shown here. Contrary to both avant-gardism and social realism, his models were the classics, but reinterpreted with modern techniques. In the book "L'art i la Revolució Social" (1936) he advocated a perfectionist realism free of compromise. In 1939 he went into exile in France, where he died. He is represented in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), Barcelona.
