Description
Important and rare Victorian 14k yellow gold cigarette case crafted by Robert Koch, jeweler to the court, referred to as "the German Cartier who custom-made diadems for royal houses". This cigarette case is presented in the original green and gold case; opening to the silk lining with gold leaf application revealing the recipients name: "Fur Dr. Ernst Leitz"/For Dr. Ernst Leitz. The cigarette box is hallmarked accordingly and weighs approx. 170 grams(5.46 Troy Ounces) measuring 3.12 x 4.62 in. Provenance: This distinctive golden cigarette case was made for the founder of Leica Camera in 1869. Dr. Ernst Leitz company manufactured cameras, optical lenses, photographic lenses, binoculars and microscopes. Dr. Leitz and his brother were responsible for assisting approx. 300,000 Jewish peoples to escape the fear and horror of Nazi Germany.
