1871-72 Continental Bank Note Company. New York. Trial Proofs Denomination Set of Six Different Trial Essays. Including a rare "Abraham Lincoln" Vignette design, Gem Crisp Mint on Card.
Stamp Reference Book Turner Essays T-64 to T-75. A Complete Set of Six Different Trial Essay Denominations, Including: 1/2, 1, 2 (lazy design), 3, 5 and $12 & Eighty Cents. These represent weights of 1/2 ounce to 40 pounds being United States Internal Revenue Tobacco Tax Stamp Frame Essays, printed in black, on Card. These Six different denominations are a truly magnificent set which have an exceptional and unusual appearance. The most stunning is the 40 pound, being the highest denomination, as it's left and right side frame lines include a fabulous vignette of a bearded Abraham Lincoln. Each has the small imprint "Continental Bank Note C. New York" below the central obverse frame line. This set is currently placed on two 8.5" x 11" white card sheets, with informative text from a prior display presentation. Simple stamp hinges adhere the Proofs in place and can easily be removed. This denomination Set is extremely rare, the first we have seen or offered. A great addition for any Proof note and/or Abraham Lincoln related collection.
