Volumes 1 & 2 includes Soldiers and Heroes, vol. 3 & 4 includes Statesmen and Sages, vol. 5 & 6 includes Workmen and Heroes, vol. 7 includes Artists and Authors. The eighth volume is missing. Each book is beautifully illustrated with about 200 steel engravings and many more, smaller illustrations. Details accounts of Benedict Arnold, Marie Antoinette, W.T.
