Gallup Brothers (VA), Peg Head Coot
Upper Back Bay, Virginia, circa 1940s, these important coots have simple construction. The body is chopped from juniper fence posts and the spindle heads are turned on a lathe. The nail and canvas bills make these decoys unique and significant; important folk art.
Length 12 in.
There were three brothers, Paul, Dick, and Bruce Gallup who made and hunted these decoys. Paul owned Premier Millworks Company and had the lathe to produce the spindle heads.
