**First Time At Auction**
Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, ca. 12th century CE. A beautiful pottery bowl meticulously hand-painted with elaborate, blue-on-white decoration of floral and scrolling motifs. Sitting upon a ring-form base, the lovely dish displays a conical body with impressively thin walls that rise outwards to a broad rim. A band of vertical striations separated by spiraling designs lines the interior walls, while a large quatrefoil adorns the basin. The exterior is similarly embellished by swirling linear patterns, possibly intended as calligraphy. Size: 7.8" Diameter x 3.9" H (19.8 cm x 9.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
