This table stands in close comparison with another table designed by Bevan and made by the Leeds firm of Marsh & Jones, also from the collection of Lord MacAlpine of West Green, that was with H. Blairman & Co. (most recently in 1995). Although Bevan was in partnership with Marsh and Jones from 1864-70, their relationship was not exclusive. In the late 1860s and early 1870s, Bevan designed 'mediaeval' furniture for Gillow, and while the sketches are unsigned, many of the designs can be confidently attributed to Bevan. Similar tables designed by Bevan were also made by Lamb of Manchester.
