American Waltham Watch Co., Waltham, Mass., a Civil War era "Appleton, Tracy & Co." pocket watch, 18 size, 15 jewels, key wind and set gilt plate movement, with lever escapement and gold balance, in a 14 karat, yellow gold, engine turned and engraved hunting case, with monogrammed cartouche on front cover, and roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial with blued steel hands, serial #53805, 130g TW
Condition
CASE: Front cover with tiny dent; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Polishing marks on cuvette; Engine turning nearly worn smooth; Bow with minor wear; Pusher with wear; Case with spurious 18 karat mark; Precious metal content tested. DIAL: Two faint hairlines below seconds bit; Two small edge chips. HANDS: Good. MOVEMENT PLATES: Gilding on top plate different than on balance cock and barrel bridge; Barrel bridge with scratches; One bridge screw with oxidation; Balance upper endstone and setting replaced.
