Extraordinary, 15th C. Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Wanli Wucai bucket color peacock pattern porcelain flower vase. The Finest porcelain vase potted in a Chinese traditional Gu shape, baluster shaped body, with bulging belly, emerging thick ring on the neck, trumpet-shaped on the neck, toward wide flare opening mouth rim, tall foot rim with emerging thick ring, raised with reverse trumpet shape, sturdy foot base rim with wide splayed flat. All reserved in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. Wucai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted in Wucai design, Opaque colors around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid sgraffito ground of uptala. The belly delicately fine depicted with beautiful peacock among red peony flowers blooms, fresh green foliage, enclosed with repeating taotie mask on the upper belly and rectangles geometric pattern on the lower belly. Snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-Shui waves in vivid tones color dragon squama surrounded the neck vase to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames, enclosed with phoenix tail on the upper mouth rim and scrolling ruyi on the shoulder. The foot rim decorated with red peony flowers blooms and rocky hill with thrashing wavy Lishui water, enclosed with interlocking key fret and auspicious pattern. Each section part banded and enclosed with double fine blue rings. The handsome male peacock struts around showing off its amazing ‘eyed’ tail feathers, It is an emblem of beauty and dignity. In the Ming and Qing dynasties the seniority of officials could be judged by the number of peacock feathers he wore in his hat. So peacocks in decoration can represent the wish to become an official. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
