Description
Early Sivas
270 x 135 cm (8' 10" x 4' 5")
Turkey, first half 19th century
Condition: very good according to age, good pile, partially corroded brown, both ends slightly restored, minor small professional repairs
Warp: wool, weft: wool, pile: wool
This is probably unique, "double field" member, from a rare small family of east Anatolian village rugs, with design interpretation of "Garden Carpets". The most famous member with a "single field" (like all others I know), was published by Hermann in his "Seltene Orientteppiche" catalogue from 1987, p. 50. Due to its double field design, this rug is bigger in dimensions then the others.
