Description
A set of the Manuscript Edition of the works of Henry David Thoreau (Houghton, Mifflin & Co., Boston and New York, 1906). Complete in twenty volumes, bound in half leather, but is assembled: the first volume, A week on the Concord and Merrimack rivers, is from set number 119 of the 600 copies of the Manuscript Edition, is signed by the publisher and is bound differently from the remaining volumes, which are from set number 561. This edition was originally issued with a leaf from a manuscript of Thoreau's bound into the front of the first volume, but this set now lacks that feature. The books are mainly 9" x 6-1/4", bindings are tight and in good shape, but are sunned on the spines from the original green to a sort of orange/brown, contents are lightly tanned but appear otherwise clean
