Poncho Sica Sica, Department of La Paz, Bolivia, 19th C. Warp faced alpaca. Heirloom ceremonial man's poncho in a locally characteristic display of naturally dyed striping. These spectacular works of textile art were achieved within the confines of the need to reflect local patterns in color array with quality displayed and esteem garnered from the technical brilliance in spinning, dyeing and proportional layout of the cultural norm. Instantly recognized while retaining individuality within the group through the level of achievement of these refined characteristics which differ from piece to piece. This is a top quality example of a six striped man's poncho on a deep cochineal red ground with separately woven fringe in complementary red. No direct reference to the Bolivian Flag. Small areas of moth damage (<01%). Size: 64'' x 55'' (163 x 140 cm).
