Black-Eyed Susans
Oil on board, signed lower right, further information and artist's biography to verso, with extensive notation. Still life with mason jar, against dark background, wooden frame painted silver. Society of Independent Artists and St. Louis Artists Guild member.Artist Bio: Cornelia Field Maury was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1886. She moved to Saint Louis, where her family owned a theatre. She began her studies at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts, an extension of Washington University in St. Louis. Maury then went on to attend the Academie Julian in Paris. She studied alongside the likes of Jules Joseph Lefebvre, Luc-Olivier Merson, Raphael Collin, Benjamin Constant, Jean-Paul Laurens, and Jules Dupre.Maury was an impressionist and post-impressionist artist. She was a member of the Saint Louis Artists? Guild, along with the Society of Western Artists. Her work has been displayed at the Salon des Artistes Francais, and the Saint Louis Art Museum recently held an exhibition of her pastel drawings. Some of her work even resides at The Smithsonian American Art Museum.
