Japanese Edo Period Samurai Ceremonial Costume And Wood Block Triptych. Kamishimo Samurai Clothing Consisting Of A Hakema (combat Skirt) And Kataginu, Kimono With Shoulder Pads, Bearing The Mon (emblem) Of The Clan To Which The Samurai Belongs. A Jingasa, Ceremonial Hat, With The Same Mon Completes The Set In An Original Box From The 19th C. The Kamishimo Was Worn During The Movement Of Samurai In Tokyo. Sankin-kotai Was A System Of Alternate Residence Of Samurai Lords (daimyos) That Required Them To Spend Alternate Years In Edo And Leave Their Wives And Children There When They Returned To Their Domain. The Triptych Of Prints Depicts The Sankin Kotai, With Samurai Wearing Their Clan’s Kamishimo And Jingasa.
