George Ames Aldrich (American, 1872-1941)
Le Madeleine-River Canche, Normandy, France
Signed "G. Ames Aldrich" lower right, identified on a presentation plaque.
Oil on board, 25 x 30 in. (63.5 x 76.5 cm), in a period frame.
Condition: Fine stable craquelure, some very minor areas of fluorescence along the perimeter of the composition, most of which appears to be natural pigment fluorescence.
Provenance: Presented to The Hamilton Club by Colonel Charles F.H. Johnson, Passaic, New Jersey, December 1921 (as recorded on the presentation plaque); through to Eckert Fine Art, Indianapolis, Indiana; purchased by a private Indianapolis collector in October 1989; through to the current owner.
N.B. Colonel Charles F.H. Johnson was the aide to General Walter K. Wilson, director of Army Emergency Relief. Colonel Johnson was a Major in the air service during World War I and returned to service during World War II.
