Description
An antique French Louis XVI Style gilt bronze mounted green tole and white marble rotary clock made in the manner of Robert Osmond. Circa: 1885. The clock case is adorned with gilt bronze dials and white enamel chapters flanked by a pair of handles with a laurel swag encircled by the figure of a snake and surmounted by a cover applied with gilt bronze acanthus leaves with a bud form finial encircled by a snake, all raised on a fluted half column mounted with a gilt bronze swag on a stepped square base. Marked and stamped, Gubelin Swiss Lucerne and 13 Jewels Swiss, on the movement. Robert Osmond, French, 1711 to 1789, was a Parisian craftsmen who worked on this monumental pendulum clock. In 1774 Robert Osmond designed the first architectural model, the upper part recalls building pediments, to illustrate Le Couronnement de la Science, The Success of Science.
