"The first ten issues of Strange Tales are Atlas pre-Code horror in a nutshell, appearing at the very start of Atlas' prime artistic pre-Code period from 1951-1954. Of note, the Timely bullpen house style that often prevailed in the crime anthologies of 1947-1950 is now thankfully absent and hungry freelancers were producing story art in a much more stylized and personalized fashion, a huge improvement over the assembly line piecemeal staff art that preceded it." — Dr. Vassallo, Atlas Era Marvel Masterworks: Strange Tales Nos. 1-10. Marvel: 2007, p. viii.
