Description:
Fine (6.0). Spine ends nicked, light rubs and edgewear, faint reading crease at spine. Off-white pages. The "Cincinnati rates the Comic Books" article by Jesse L. Murrell has a border illustrated with dozens of comic book covers, including Planet Comics, Fight Comics, Archie, The Spirit, Crime Does Not Pay, Crime Patrol #16, Ka'anga, Brenda Starr, Plastic Man, Jumbo Comics, etc.
"Many parents, teachers, communities are upset about comic books and the influence they are having on children today. But in most cases, although parents, teachers and communities have done a good deal of talking, they have taken no steps to evaluate the comics now on the market. Not so Cincinnati; that city made up its mind that talk was not enough, so they organized and went into action." — From Jesse L. Murrell's article, "Cincinnati Rates the Comic Books. How 555 Comics Rate."
This mag comes from the archives of EC ace Thommy Burns, who says: "The cover of the February, 1950 issue of Parents' Magazine boasted '555 Comic Magazines Rated.' The ratings were done by the Committee on Evaluation of Comic Books, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Comics were rated A (no objection), B (some objection), C (objectionable) and D (very objectionable). Of the eight EC comics on the list, Picture Stories from the Bible is the only title rated "no objection," with Modern Love and Saddle Romances rated "some objection," Gunfighter, Saddle Justice and War Against Crime rated "objectionable," and Crime Patrol and Moon Girl rated "very objectionable." The only EC pictured in this mag is Crime Patrol #16, the last issue before the title was changed to Crypt of Terror, so the CECB would have a lot more to object to very soon!"
