BIOGRAPHY:
Laurence A Campbell, born in Philadelphia January 21, 1939 grew up a few blocks from the Philadelphia Museum of Art and visited there often throughout his youth. He studied architecture at Temple University and for several years had his own building business. But he always painted, including commissions for clients who wanted to have copies of well known artists of the past, to which he always signed his name as the reproducer. He also did fine art restoration and is of the opinion that this is a most effective way to study and master the art of painting. All this led to his abandoning his building business and establishing his "Gallery 35" in Westmont, New Jersey in 1970. His knowledge of art provided him with the ability to buy and sell art privately, but for some years now, his own paintings have been his passion.Campbell, very much a loner, put up the "closed" sign more and more often, until they closed the gallery in the early 1990's. He then exhibited at a New Jersey gallery from 1994 until he stopped painting in 2003. He has never joined any art associations and shuns publicity. Rarely seen in public, his constant companion is his wife, Evie. They have a grown son, Steve and a granddaughter, Ashley.
