Nice advertising piece from early Los Angeles history.? This stein is from Villeroy & Boch for The Los Angeles Brewery Co and is No. 191. Well marked on the bottom with stamp and some lightly impressed numbers 03, indicating it was manufactured in 1903, and the letter S.? Stands approx? 9 tall
In August of 1897, P. Max Kuehnrich?and Edward Mathie broke ground for a new brewery and beer gardens company in Los Angeles, opening a couple months later, on the banks of the Los Angeles River. The key ingredient for their brew was the fresh, cool water from the river at the time.In 1907, the brewery was renamed Eastside Beverage Co, in 1920 it became Zesto Beverage and tried to remain in operation during Prohibition by producing apple cider, rootbeer and more but struggled but remained in operation by selling soft drinks.? By the end of Prohibition, 1933, they became The Eastside Brewing Co. After the then brewery owners struggled against Anheuser-Busch, they sold to Pabst in 1948.The old brewery was purchased in 1979 and after a much needed rehab, it is known as The Brewery Artist Lofts.
