Antique carved wooden Cult idol of Maximon, The Patron Saint of Drinking and smoking ,also called San Siman,who originally was a Mayan deity and folk saint. Maximon is said to represent both light and dark, and to be a trickster. He is both a womanizer and a protector of couples. His priests and followers consume large amounts of alcohol. Traditional catholic priests of the region consider him the Devil. This cult idol of Saint Maximon was collected in Guatemala in the 1970's by Museum Curator Paul Hendricks. It is an original traditionally used example that measures 13 inches tall ( Chair is 6.75 inches tall) and was part of the permanent display at the Metamora Museum of Oddities, Metamora Indiana
