Description
Saddle Rug, Tibet, Early/Mid 19th C., 2'1'' x 4'3'' (64 x 130 cm). Weight: 5 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft. Woven as a single piece. Typically, Tibetan saddle carpets are woven as two pieces joined together at the center with the pile falling away from the join. Some earlier examples of notched type saddles were woven as a single piece. In these examples the pile falls in only one direction resulting in one side of these type often having severe wear on one side, as is the case with this piece which has restoration on such areas.
