A 19th Century Cast Iron Ewer with a very busy and complicated Allegorical scene enveloping every inch of the vessel and an elaborate dragon with coiled tail clinging to an acanthus leaf opposite the spout. Just outside the spout resides Prometheus with his cape and fire in hand and the Eagle poised to eat his liver; The other figures wrapping around the vessel must be figures of Greek Mythology and perhaps recipients of fire given to us mortals. Overall height is 20" tall and 11" across from wings to edge of spout. Unmarked. Note that the upper section of the ewer is riveted to main vessel; we thought that noteworthy. Great time acquired surface patina. CONDITION: Excellent. Base possibly replaced and two small points broken off of each wing at same location as if intentionally removed.
