Item Details
Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A lovely ensemble of 8 artifacts from ancient Egypt. First are a trio of mold-pressed faience discoid appliques, each featuring a bust of the dwarf deity Bes on one side and a wadjet (also wedjat or Eye of Horus) on the other side, and all covered in blue-green glaze. Next is a slender blue-glazed cowroid bead, and a plaque pendant bears the seated image of the lioness goddess Sekhmet holding a wadjet. A nearly pure copper figurine of a deity, perhaps Khnum, stands with delineated legs and wears a tall crown, perhaps the Hemhem crown. A leaded bronze Apis bull is shown standing atop an integral plinth while wearing a uraeus-fronted sun disk. The largest figurine is a leaded bronze nude Harpocrates (Her-pa-khered, literally "Horus the child") who presents with his signature side lock of youth while holding 1 finger to his mouth in a gesture of silence. Size of largest (Harpocrates): 0.48" W x 1.57" H (1.2 cm x 4 cm)

Condition
Khnum figurine has small losses to arms; remaining 7 pieces are intact and very good. Harpocrates figure is covered with a clear, reflective stabilization agent. Softening to some finer details, with light fading to glaze pigment on some faience pieces, and light encrustations on leaded bronze and copper pieces. Nice remains of glaze pigment on faience pieces, and great patina on leaded bronze and copper pieces.
