Description
Chinese 19th Century - Qing Dynasty - Silk Children's Festival Hat -Hand made during the 19th Century ,Qing Dynasty is a child's hat. Medicine and hygiene standards in rural China during the Qing dynasty (1644–1912) meant that many children did not live to see the end of their first 100 days. This tragedy was regularly attributed to evil spirits and envious gods who harmed children out of spite and was combatted by wearing clothing covered in auspicious symbols, homophonic visual puns, and animal faces. It depicts a Qui dragon, complete with eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers on the front. The top has horns and fire on the sides overlapping it's scales. The spine of the dragon continues to the back with it's "tail" in the rear, and ties under the chin. Item ships from Corona Del Mar, Ca.
